Each state has its own state CME requirements to fulfill – some depend on the amount of CME you earn, others center more on your educational hours. It can be hard to keep track. Nevada requires a lot of CME credits and mandates that you split some of your credits between designated subjects. And trying to keep track of all these requirements may be tedious for you.

For Nevada MD physicians, you’ll need to fulfill the following:

“40 hours every 2 years; all must be Category 1. 20 hours must be in scope of practice of specialty; 2 must be in medical ethics, pain management, or addiction care; 2 must be in misuse and abuse of controlled substances, prescribing of opioids, or addiction; 16 may be in other medical education, including 2 hours every 4 years on suicide detection, intervention, and prevention. New licensees must complete 4 hours in WMD/bioterrorism within the first 2 years of licensure. 

Applicants for issuance or renewal of a license must attest to knowledge of and compliance with the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concerning the prevention of transmission of infectious agents through safe and appropriate injection practices.” – FSMB

  • CME Credits Required: 40
  • Term(Years): 2
  • AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ required: 50
  • Required Topics: 20 credits in your speciality; 2 credits medical ethics; 2 credits controlled substances; 2 hours every 4 years on suicide detection, intervention, and prevention; And for new licensees, 4 hours WMD/bioterrorism

For Nevada DO physicians, you’ll need to fulfill the following:

“35 hours every year; 10 must be Category 1A. Licensees must complete 2 hours every 4 years on suicide detection, intervention, and prevention. As part of the biennial continuing education requirements for an osteopathic physician, the Board requires at least 2 hours of continuing education credits in ethics, pain management, or addiction care. The Board will add this requirement on every odd year renewal application.” – FSMB

  • CME Credits Required: 35
  • Term(Years): 1
  • AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ required: 10
  • Required Topics: 2 hours every 4 years on suicide detection, intervention, and prevention; 2 credits medical ethics, pain management, or addiction care
