Each state has its own state CME requirements to fulfill – some depend on the amount of CME you earn, others center more on your educational hours. It can be hard to keep track. Washington D.C. requires a lot of CME credits and mandates that you split some of your credits between designated subjects. And trying to keep track of all these requirements may be tedious for you.

For both Washington D.C. MD and DO physicians, you’ll need to fulfill the following:

“50 hours every 2 years; all must be Category 1. As part of the 2018 renewal process, physicians, physician assistants and nurses must complete 3 hours in the subject of HIV/AIDS, two (2) hours in the subject of LGBTQ cultural competency, and at least one (1) course in the subject of pharmacology. Effective January 1, 2021, 10 percent of the total CME requirement must be completed in topics identified by the Director of the Department of Health as public health priorities.” – FSMB

  • CME Credits Required: 50
  • Term(Years): 2
  • AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ required: 40
  • Required Topics: 2 LGBTQ cultural competency; 1 credit pharmacology; 5 credits in public health priorities (sexual health, implicit bias, medical ethics, etc.)
